Oak Park Eagles Win Inaugural Coastal Canyon League Title!
4/30/2015 Oak Park, CA

The Oak Park Boys Volleyball team notched another impressive win, clinching the Coastal Canyon League Championship in the League's inaugural season. A perfect 8-0 record against the League has only one small blemish, a dropped set in the season finale last night to Camarillo.

The Eagles came out firing on all cylinders, and Jake Rosen stood out early with a team high 9 kills in set 1. Alex parks was also a factor, notching several key points in a close opening set. Tristan Penrod played libero, served well, and Adam Parks set the team beautifully, again, as the boys gained momentum.

Set 2 proved to be the first time the Eagles dropped a set in League play all year long, as Camarillo bested Oak Park despite excellent middle play by Grigory Manyak and Jacob Kishineff. Ryan Schwatz served great throughout the match, and was a significant force from the serivce line.

However, this night would belong to the seniors, which was appropriate on Senior Night. Craig Lamb came up with incredible, acrobatic point-saving digs at cruicial times in Set 3, and turned the tide for the Eagles. In addition, Woody Cook hit a personal milestone, and set a record in the process. Notching his 1,000th career kill as an OPHS Eagle, both teams took time out and applauded to acknowledge the historic accomplishment. Kudos, Kid!

The Eagles ultimatley won in 4 sets, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15, 25-16, beating a very capable Camarillo Scorpions squad. It seeemed that the Eagles really took control of the match as the night wore on. Jake Rosen and Alex Parks had tons of great kills, and the middles provided plenty of fireworks whenever the outsides were getting more attention from the Scorpion block. Adam Parks was able to provide very nice matchups for the hitters all night long, including a 1-on-none for Ian Sears who buried the nectar set in dramatic fashion. And the final swing of the night was a thunderous blast, # 1,009, by Woody Cook, putting an exclamation point on a great night. Woody says, "Thank you, Adam!"

Seniors Ryan and Will Schwartz, Robbie Vetti, Jason Gari, Woody Cook, Craig Lamb, Jake Rosen, and Jacob Kishineff were all honored before the match on this very special evening. Their leadership and play has now won a highly anticipated and coveted Coastal Canyon League Title, the first one in history, that will hang high in the rafters of the Eagles Nest for all to see!

Next up on the calendar is the Redondo Boys Varsity Classic this weekend, where the Eagles will undoubtedly be tested heading into the CIF SS Division 2 playoffs. In attendance are all 4 of the top seeded Division 2 teams, Laguna Beach, Burroughs, Oak Park and Valencia. Much will be told in this saga come Saturday evening, and all-important seeding will be determined by how the Eagles perform when they face their Division counterparts. Also in attendance are powerhouses Dana Hills, San Clemente, and cross-town rival Westlake.

Go Eagles!!!

@ OPHS 3/6/15

Friday night in the Eagles Nest proved to be a beautiful thing, as OPHS swept previously unbeaten Thousand Oaks in straight sets.

In another great non-conference matchup, the TO Lancers hoped to come into the Nest and rattle some cages. But the Eagles were having none of it, sweeping the contest 25-15, 25-22, 25-11. These schools know eachother well, as many of the kids play club ball together, so familiar faces were everywhere.

Coach Quinn has certainly scheduled some very tough competition to get the juices flowing before league play begins next week. The team was prepared, squared, and ready to play from the first serve.

A quick start was just what the doctor ordered tonight, and Oak Park really never left any doubt in this one. The gym could stand to be a little more full, but perhaps the new streaming of the game is allowing fans to listen in at home. Nonetheless, the boys would sure appreciate attendance in person.

Next into the Nest is Calabasas on Monday, another worthy non-conference opponent with eyes on taking down the Eagles. Come one, come all, and let's be loud!!!

Go Eagles!!!

@ NEWBURY PARK 3/4/15

The OPHS Eagles traveled to Newbury Park Wednesday, March 4th, and came away with a great win, sweeping the Panthers in straight sets 25-23, 25-17, 26-24. The Panthers are currently ranked 7th in the CIF SS Div 1, and the Eagles are ranked #3 in the CIF SS Div 2.

It was a battle from the beginning, and both teams took their best shots early and often. The Panters held a 14-10 lead in the first set, but the Eagles battled back and Senior Woody Cook served an ace to finish the set.

Sophomore Adam Parks led all players in assists, and served and blocked extremely well as the Eagles pretty much had their way with the Panthers in Set 2.

The third set was close from beginning to end, and key defensive magic from Craig Lamb got everyone fired up. Middles Jacob Kishineff(Senior) and Grigory Manyak (So), and Robbie Vetti(sr.) all chipped in to defend the huge middles of Newbury Park. Senior Jake Rosen was effective from the outside all night, and came through with some clutch kills and digs. Sophomore and twin brother to Adam, Alex Parks was solid throughout the match, and provided some very timely hitting. Ian Sears(So.) also saw time at the pins, and provided a breather for the tired Eagles while not giving up an inch. Tristan Penrod (So.) took his very effective serving to the line and rattled off numerous runs that helped the Eagles dispatch the Panthers

All in all, this victory was a great one, as the Newbury Park Panthers are picked to do very well this year in Div. 1. This was a very strong, much anticipated, early season test for the Eagles, and they paassed this exam with flying colors!

Next up, Thousand Oaks, Friday night in the Eagles Nest. See you all there, and be loud!

Go Eagles!!!

COOK, LAMB, PARKS HONORED WITH ALL-CIF SS SELECTIONS

OPHS FINISHES SEASON RANKED #7 IN NATION

COACH QUINN NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR!

June 22, 2015

Three Oak Park players were selected to the 2015 All-CIF Southern Section Team, and Head Coach Patrick Quinn won his second CIF Coach of the Year Award. These are all tremendous honors, and indicate what an exceptional 2015 Season Oak Park had.

Craig Lamb and Adam Parks were named to the 2015 All-CIF SS Div 2 First Team, and Woody Cook was named the 2015 CIF SS Div 2 Player of the Year.

Adam Parks, in a breakout Sophomore campaign as the Eagle Setter, racked up a massive 1,066 Assists, 229 Digs, 145 Blocks, and 30 Aces. He ran the offence beautifully all season long, and is considered by many as the best blocker in the League.

Craig Lamb, the Southern Section Div 2 All-CIF Libero selection, will attend UCLA in the Fall. Craig amassed 1,234 Service Receptions, an amazing 900 Digs, and 62 Aces in a stellar career as an Eagle.

Woody Cook, an Outside Hitter who will become a USC Trojan next year, put together four Varsity seasons that included 416 Digs, 156 Blocks, 67 Aces, a career .322 Hitting %, and an astounding 1181 Kills, an  Oak Park record that will likely stand for some time.  His Senior campaign earned him the Div 2 CIF SS PLAYER OF THE YEAR selection, joining Justin Parks who won the honor in 2012.

And leading the Eagles for the last 7 seasons is Coach Patrick Quinn. He received his 2nd CIF SS COACH OF THE YEAR honor with a 2015 match record of 35-6. He has put together an astounding career match record of 205-49-4, and a League record of 72-1. Simply amazing!!!

Congratulations to the entire Eagle roster and coaching staff on a remarkable 2015 season, one for the record books, and which put plenty of hardware in the OPHS trophy case.

Oak Park Boys Volleyball Wraps Season at Amazing 35-6 Record

June 1, 2015

The Boys Volleyball Team ended a fantastic season on somewhat of a sour note, losing to powerhous CDM in a five set match that will hurt for a long time. But the Eagles have nothing to hang their heads about, entering the match as a decided underdog by the experts, even though they knew they could match the Sea Kings swing for swing. They did just that, but came up just a smidge short.

Nonetheless, Oak Park finished this amazing season with tremendous accomplishments in 2015:

  • CIF SS Division II Champions

  • CIF Regional Finalists

  • Coastal Canyon League Champions

  • St. John Bosco Tournament Champions

  • Ranked #1 in CIF SS Div II

  • Ranked #10 in the Nation

  • 35-6 Overall Record

It was great fun to watch this tight knit team deliver results that rival any team in Schoool History. All involved should be proud, and know that OPHS Volleyball is #1 in all of our hearts. Thank you for all of your support this year, and thank you for delivering a wonderful season of fantastic volleyball.

So long, for now.

Oak Park Continues to Roll -Sweeps into SoCal Regional Final vs. Corona del Mar 5PM Saturday at Cerritos College

May 28, 2015 Oak Park, CA

OPHS first swept Taft, then swept El Segundo to secure a return trip to the SoCal Regional Final, where they will face CIF SS Div I runner up, Corona del Mar at 5PM Saturday at Cerritos College.

Eight seniors played their last match in the Eagles Nest tonight, and went out in style. The SoCal Regional Tournament has been an exclamation point on this remarkable run, with back to back sweeps of Taft, the CIF LA City Div II champion, and then El Segundo, the CIF SS Div III champion.

The eight Oak Park seniors, Craig Lamb, Jake Rosen, Woody Cook, Ryan Schwartz, Will Schwartz, Robbie Vetti, Jason Gari, and Jacob Kishineff, can always look back on their last match at home with very fond memories. A large and raucus crowd had the Birdcage rockin' tonight. Thank you to each of them for their dedication and committment, and enourmous contributions to the OPHS Volleyball program.

In the end tonight, and Tuesdau, the Oak Park Eagles were just too much for their opponents. A full quiver of weapons, a big ol' block, and tremendous defence  are a wonderful recipe for success, and that is exactly what this team is throwing at their opponents.

So now, on to Cerritos to see if the Eagles can put the ultimate exclamation point on the season and bcome the first volleyball team in school history to win a Regional Title.

See you all Saturday at 5PM in Cerritos. Go Eagles!!!

OPHS Wins Their Second CIF SS Div II Championship in 4 years!

May 23, 2015 Cerritos, CA

The Oak Park Eagles are CIF Champions, again!!! By sweeping Valencia in a simply dominant performance, they left no doubt why they were raked #1 for most of the year. It was a thing of beauty, and something to behold as the scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-10 told a devastaingly efficient story of execution.

Coaches Pat and Adam Quinn and Dan Penrod can all take credit for having this team prepared to play and ready for war.

The Valencia Vikings had some real fire power, but the Eagles preparation was evident as their balanced attack proved significantly more lethal than what they were up against.

To steal a line we've all heard, a virtuoso performance by Adam Parks spreading the ball around, kept the Eagles in control of the match, and the Vikings off balance and wondering how they would defend all points of attack at all times. The simple answer is, you can't.

Statistical Attack leaders for the Eagles were Woody Cook, Alex Parks and Jake Rosen with 13, 10 and 7 kills each respectively. Jacob Kishineff and Grigory Manyak out of the middle were next to unstoppable. Serving and Defensive Specialist Tristan Penrod completed the last two matches of the CIF run with only 1 serving error, AMAZING!  Craig Lamb showed his mettle with a match high 10 digs and confirmed why he is considered one of the very best Liberos in the country.

Oak Park is now 33-5, are Coastal Canyon Champs, CIF SS Champs, and move on to the State Regional to try to make history.

This band of Eagles plays one special brand of volleyball, and now can call themselves CIF Champions. Congratulations to all!!!

Next up is the State Regional Tournament, where Oak Park will host Taft at home on Tuesday night. Gametime 7PM.

Eagles Soar to CIF SS FINAL - Beat Laguna Beach in 4 Sets

May 21, 2015 Laguna Beach, CA

The Oak Park Eagles traveled to Laguna Beach, went into a hostile gym with lots of home fans, and took care of business. One could argue this was the best match of the year, and the scores would certainly indicate a very close and hard fought victory with scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21.

The Eagles did take a commanding lead of 13-3 in game 4, but ended up holding on to take that set and secure the match. The balanced attack, and some great defence seemed to be the difference in this outstanding effort by the boys. Blocking and digging at critical junctures proved invaluable as the Eagles just would not let Laguna Beach make sustained runs.

Coach Patrick Quinn will lead the Eagles down to Cerritos College and a seat in the Finals for the first time since 2012, when the Eagles won the CIF SS Div II Title. He has 6 trips to the Final in 10 years, an accomplishment that is up there with the very best programs in any sport in the country.

The Eagles will face Valencia on Saturday at 4:30PM at Cerritos College. The day will include championship matches in each of the 5 Southern Section Divisions. Oak Park will play the penultimate match of the day, and settle the Division II Championship for 2015. They will need lots of support, so bring all your friends and family down to watch the boys try to win it all. It would be only the second Volleyball Cchampionship in Oak Park history, and that would be awesome!

Go Eagles!!!

Oak Park Sweeps Canyon and Moves on to CIF SS Semi-Final

May 17, 2015 Canyon Country, CA

The Eagles were all business Saturday, making quick work of the Canyon Cowboys, winning in three sets 25-9, 25-17- 25-14. The team used a balanced attack, and outstanding blocking to control the net against Canyon.  The match took less than an hour to complete.

It seemed as though the team was doing their best to honor the Seniors on the team, who had a prom to attend, so how better than to get them on their way in a hurry.

Coach Quinn knows what it takes at this stage of the season, having enjoyed tremendous success since taking over at Oak Park. His record is simply amazing. Quinn wants desperately to return to the big dance, the CIF Final, after a two year absence following a Division II title in 2012.

The Eagles, sporting a 31-5 record, will travel to face Laguna Beach, 23-8, on Wednesday night at 7PM. To be sure, the road just got a lot tougher for the Eagles in the playoffs. The Laguna Beach Breakers went undefeated to win the Orange Coast league title. Laguna Beach is ranked #4 in CIF Div II, #53 in California, #80 in the Country. They will be ready to play.

Oak Park comes in ranked #1 in CIF, #10 in the State, and #11 in the Country. The Eagles won the inaugural Coastal Canyon League title with an undefeated record, and are ready to make their own School history.

Let's show up Wednesday in Laguna and display some Eagle Pride!

Go Eagles!!!

OPHS Defeats Norco in straight Sets to Advance to Quarter Final

Round 2 of the CIF Playoffs proved to be a great night for the Eagles, as they took the next step in the CIF journey. Beating Norco puts them in the Quarter Final Match against Canyon High School. The match will be played at Canyon on Saturday, the time still to be determined.

The team looked efficient, and ready, but a little sloppy with their passing and serving. OPHS will need to tighten their belts, and clean up their play in order to advance again in the tournament. Canyon is a good team that can sideout with Oak Park, and there is no room for error at this stage of the game.

The CIF SS Div 2 braket is shaping up pretty much as predicted, as the remaining 8 teams are all excellent. Focus, Fearless, Determined is what it will take to continue to advance.

Go Eagles!!!

Oak Park Dominates Long Beach Wilson in Round 1 CIF SS Playoffs; Rd 2 vs Norco Thursday 7PM

The Match was in the OPHS GYM. The fans were there, and they were loud! A straight set sweep allowed an opportunity to play a lot of players, showing the depth this talented Eagles squad.

A fast start tonight against Woodrow Wilson HS eased OPHS into what will surely be a very competitive Tournament.  The Eagles will now face Norco on Thursday at 7PM. Norco beat El Toro tonight. The location of the match will be decided by coin toss Wed morning at 9AM, results available at 9:30AM at www.cifss.org.  Stay tuned to get your fix of a great final push for the Title for this talented and determined team.

Go Eagles!!!

Eagles Soar in Redondo, Regain #1 Ranking in CIF SS Div II

5/7/2015 Redondo Beach, CA

Oak Park entered the Redondo Varsity Classic as the #6 tournament seed, ranked #3 in CIF Div II, and with a healthy chip on their shoulder. Would they face Burroughs to avenge their lone Division II loss of he season? Yes, and they won. Could they make up the ground that the early season loss cost them in the CIF Tournament seedings? Yes they could. Will any of this matter come playoff time? A resounding NO, as the CIF Champion will almost certainly have to face two of the top four ranked teams to win it all.

The new CIF SS Division II standings are as follows:

1.  Oak Park

2.  Valencia

3.  Burroughs

4.  Laguna Beach

All four teams were present in Redondo, and all four had good showings, but Oak Park finished ted for 3rd and ahead of the Division II pack. Considering the level of play and competition, a great result indeed for the Eagles.

The Eagles also stuck a stake in the ground for area supremacy. Oak Park claimed bragging rights for another year, beating Westlake in the Quarterfinal match, a thrilling comback victory after giving up the first set.

Adam Parks and Woody Cook were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Next up for Oak Park is a match against the Alumni this Friday, a great tune up for a CIF run that begins at home in the Eagles Nest on Tuesday May 12th at 7PM. The Eagle opponent has yet to be named for Round 1, but rest assured it will be a test, and the first required step on the Road to the Championship!

Oak Park can also rest assured that they have a target on their backs as the #1 seed. Burroughs will have a chip on their shoulder now, and Valencia and Laguna Beach are both formidable foes. The Eagles will have their hands full with any of the above if/when they meet in the playoffs.

Fire up, Focus, Forge Ahead!!!

OPHS Wins Coastal Canyon League Title - Beats Camarillo 3-1
4/30/2015 Oak Park, CA

The Oak Park Boys Volleyball team notched another impressive win, clinching the Coastal Canyon League Championship in the League's inaugural season. A perfect 8-0 record against the League places another Banner in the Eagles Nest rafters.

Oak Park wins St. John Bosco-Valley Christian Tourney
3/28/2015 Downey, CA

The Eagles ran the table over the weekend and took home Championship honors. They did so in convincing fashion, not dropping a set in the tournament. Craig Lamb and Adam Parks were named to the All Tournament Team, and Woody Cook was named Tournament MVP.

The ship seems to be on track again following a tough loss to Burroughs March 18th, and dropping their Division II #1 ranking. OPHS had a good week with wins over Simi Valley and Moorpark in conference. But seeding will remain a factor as Oak Park will not face Burroughs again unless they meet in the playoffs.

The press is beginning to follow this team, and the Eagles are positioned to soar. They looked very strong facing Canyon in the Semi-finals of the St. John Bosco-Valley Christian Tournament. They then traveled to St. John Bosco to face the Braves on their home turf to determine the Championship. The result was a great win over a Division I team that figures to play a role in CIF SS playoff, as the Eagles beat the St. John Bosco Braves 25-20, 25-12. A very convincing win.

The boys can be proud of their great work and now turn their focus on Royal, and then Camarillo as their next league matches are fast approaching. Congrats!

Eagles Finish T7 in Best of the West
3/15/2015 San Diego, CA

OPHS was the sole remaining Division 2 team when they faced Loyola Saturday at the Best of the West tournament, but a slow start for the Eagles dug a hole that proved too deep to climb out of. Credit #2 ranked Division 1 powerhouse Loyola for playing nearly flawless volleyball for the first set. It looked like the Eagles were feeling the pressure, but Loyola passed well, served well, and had a ton of offensive fire power that Oak  Park just couldn't handle to start the match.

Set two was a bit of a different story as the Eagles took flight and extended the Loyola Cubs, and looked much more steady. I'm sure Loyola didnt like the feeling of the match as set point was served up by Woody Cook after two clutch jump serves, including an ace, pulled Oak Park ahead at 24-23. But Loyola sided out and eventually took the set 27-25, and the match.

Jake Rosen took home ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM honors, and played fantastic volleyball throughout the tournament. Craig Lamb, Adam Parks, Grigory Manyak, Alex Parks, Tristan Penrod,  Jacob Kishineff and Ian Sears all made steady contributions throughout the weekend.

While a 7th place finish was respectable, the Loyola loss left the team thristy for more. They proved the can play with the best teams in the West, and certainly in the Southern Section of CIF.

Wins over Clovis, Edison and Redondo in pool play went mostly to schedule. Then a very important match against Division 2 Valencia welcomed the boys to the Gold Medal Bracket play Saturday morning. But a straight set win secured their ranking as the team returns home to normal match play this week. A loss to San Clemente ended the Eagle weekend.

Next up, Westlake, in the Warriors' gym, Monday night. GO EAGLES!

4-0 Start to the Season Launches OPHS to #1 before Best of the West!

3/11/2015 Oak Park, CA
OPHS notched an impressive victory over the Royal Highlanders to open league play with a great home win Wednesday night. Oak Park came ready to play again, jumping all over the Highlanders in Game 1, and while Roayl came out swinging in Game 2, this match was really never in doubt. The set scores of 25-9, 25-21, 25-11 are a good indication that this team is clicking on all cylinders right now.

Great locational serving, coupled with stong jump serves kept the green guys off balance all night long.  OPHS got strong work out of the middle with Jacob Kishineff and Grigory Manyak bouncing numerous balls shy of the 15' line(thank you Adam Parks for the isolations). Jake Rosen, Alex Parks and Woody Cook all had great nights, and when the stats are in, they too will be thanking Adam Parks.

Jake Rosen came up with some very timely digs on ripped balls, undoubtedly frustrating the big Highlander hitters. Craig Lamb, not to be outdone, seemed to be everywher defensively, and had a 7 point run from the service line in Game 1. Guess he didn't want Jake to be the only one frustrating Royal players.   Alex Parks and Tristan Penrod also had very nice serving runs throughout the match. Adam had some fantastic power dumps, and of course, blocked extremely well, again.

Next up, Best of the West, where the team will really be tested. Playing mostly CIF SS Div 1 schools, OPHS will take their #1 SS Div 2 ranking to San Diego and test drive it on a very fast track. Collision course - perennial powerhouse Loyola!
